What is Your Plan for 2009? |

Most people will agree that a clear strategic plan and ability to execute is a critical element of a successful organization, but a less understood aspect of this process is the need for shared vision. This is realized by involving key people in a collaborative process that develops both a strong plan and commitment from those who must make it happen.
Your strategic planning process is a great opportunity to get the best thinking and ideas on the table in an honest discussion about the right direction for your company. It is also a great opportunity to coach people and develop your leadership culture.
Unfortunately, many executives and managers see their role as needing to have all of the answers and delivering the "vision" to the people. This usually creates a lot of unnecessary stress on the individual leader and fails to deliver desired results.
This is a good time of the year to evaluate your beliefs and practices. Do you have a clear vision and plan for 2009 and beyond? Do your employees share this vision and support it? Are you developing them in the process to create a healthy leadership culture that attracts and retains the best people? A good strategy process should do all this and is an important part of any great organization. Go ahead and give it a try-you'll be amazed at the results.

Employee Engagement Is Still a Goal, Warns Study |

An Employee Engagement Report by global
consulting firm BlessingWhite indicates that even though most employees
express positive feelings about their work, their employers, and their
managers, less than one-fifth are fully engaged in their work,
according to an announcement regarding the study.
"Engaged
employees are not just happy or proud. They are what we call ‘enthused
and in gear,' focusing their talents to make a difference in their
employer's success," explained Christopher Rice, BlessingWhite
president and chief executive. "We found that only 18% of survey
respondents had all the pieces of this engagement puzzle in place."
