Moving at high speed, trying to get more and more done. Thankfully, economic indicators show us headed toward blue skies again.

Have you been running around the same bases week after week, assuring that the essentials are under control? The urge to concentrate exclusively on crucial, immediate concerns can be overwhelming, but it’s a mistake that can hinder growth. No matter how busy you are, strategy matters.

The economic slowdown compelled organizations to reverse the gradual creep of costly, unnecessary complexity, and that’s good. But it has also meant weathering the storm with a smaller staff, and that’s been a challenge. To drive results going forward, leaders must be equipped to keep every employee on track. With all the re-sizing, restructuring and belt tightening, it’s very possible that many, if not all, of the roles at your company have changed. Time for a raise? Be prepared before you ask Print E-mail
Put yourself in your boss's shoes, said Kent Frese of Leadership Management Institute in Harrisburg. "Everybody needs something. Try to think about what he's trying to accomplish," Frese said. Figure out how you're going to generate more sales or more clients.

Understand your boss's personality, too, Frese said. "Is he dominating, extroverted? Does he follow the party line? Is he a perfectionist? That can help you."

Paul J. Meyer, LMI Founder, dies at 81 years old Print E-mail

paul-j-meyerPaul J. Meyer, who founded Success Motivation Institute and Leadership Management Institute and lived his life encouraging others, died at his home early Monday morning surrounded by his family. He was 81.

A prolific author (multiple New York Times best seller) and entrepreneur, Paul amassed a fortune with ventures like SMI and LMI. In all, he started 176 companies. Many succeed, some failed, but he never had time to wallow in defeat.

Paul learned he had bladder cancer in May. Although it spread to other parts of his body, he applied the same positive thinking and action to his battle with cancer as he did to the rest of his life.
